<br />- MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />AND <br />ORANGE COUNTY PLANNING BOARD <br />JOINT QUARTERLY PUBLIC HEARING <br />MAY 22, 1989 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners and the Orange County Planning Board met in <br />joint session on Monday, May 22, 1989 at 7:30 p.m, in the Superior Court Room, new <br />County Courthouse, Hillsborough, NC. <br />COMMISSIONERS P ESENT: Chair Moses Carey, Jr., and Commissioners Don Willhoit, Shirley <br />Marshall, Steve Halkiotis and John Hartwell. <br />PLANNING BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair Barry Jacobs, and members Amanda Garol Cantrell, <br />Steve Yuhasz, Dan.Eddleman, Chris Best, Jean Hamilton, Elizabeth Eidenier, and Pegge <br />Abrams. <br />COUNTY ATTORNEY: Geoffrey Gledhill <br />STAFF PRESENT: County Manager John M. Link Jr., Economic Development Director Sylvia <br />Price, Planning Director Marvin Collins, Planners Gene Bel]., Emily Crudup, David <br />Stancil, and Eddie Kirk, Clerk to the Board Beverly Blythe, and Deputy Clerk to the <br />Board Kathy Baker. <br />A. BOARD COMMENTS - None <br />B. AUDIENCE COMMENTS <br />Chairman Carey announced that all citizens who desire to speak will have an <br />opportunity at the appropriate time when the item appears on the agenda. <br />-" C. PUBLIC CHARGE <br />Chairman Moses Carey, Jr, read the public charge. <br />NOTE: Chairman Carey presided over the meeting. All items were advertised in <br />accordance with the procedure as outlined in the Orange County Zoning Ordinance. The <br />background information for all items is in the permanent agenda file in the Clerk's <br />Office. Stated below the title of each item will be a brief summary of the presentation <br />with the citizen comments in more detail. <br />D. FUBLIC HEARING <br />1. ASSIGNMENT OF HOUSE NUMBERS <br />a. Rural Route 10 _ Chapel Hill <br />The presentation was made by Marvin Collins. In summary this item was <br />presented to receive citizen comments on the postal service routes proposed for a change <br />from existing rural box numbers to a system of permanently assigned house numbers for <br />Route 10, Chapel Hill. <br />THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS OPEN FOR PUBLIC COMMENTS. <br />MR. PAUL LUSH, a resident of The Trails, spoke in opposition to the proposed change <br />of address. One serious concern he had was in reference to emergency personnel <br />responding to a call and not being able to find the new address. <br />CHAIRMAN CAREY stated that one of the objectives for assigning new house numbers <br />was to assist with emergency rescue and response.
