~~ <br />PUBLIC HEARING <br />~ ASSIGNMENT OF HOUSE AND BUILDING NUMBERS ON RURAL ROUTE 1 HURDLE MILLS <br />Planning Director Marvin Collins presented for receipt of citizen comment the <br />proposed house and building numbers to be assigned to Rural Route 1 in the County <br />served by the Hurdle Mills Post Office. The Staff recommends approval, Following <br />approval the Hurdle Mills Postmaster and the N.C. Department of Transportation will <br />notify everyone involved as required by G.S, 153A-240. <br />THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS OPEN FOR CITIZEN COMMENTS: <br />W. H. Bunch asked Collins to explain the procedure that will be followed in <br />notifying the citizens affected by this change. His main concern was that he was not <br />notified when he moved into the area last year that his address would be changed, <br />Acting Chair Carey assured Mr. Bunch that the post office will locate him and that <br />he will be able to use his checks for a long while. <br />WITH NO FURTHER COMMENTS, THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Hartwell, seconded by Commissioner Marshall to <br />approve the proposed house and building numbers for Rural Route 1, Hurdle Mills, <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS. <br />D. RESOLUTIONS OR PROCLAMATIONS <br />The Resolution of Appreciation was read and presented to Quentin W. Patterson by <br />Commissioner Hartwell. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Hartwell, seconded by Commissioner Halkiotis to <br />approve the resolution as stated below: <br />RESOLUTION OF RECOGNITION <br />WHEREAS, Quentin W. Patterson has served Orange County will diligence and <br />distinction as a professional conservationist and as an elected member of the Orange <br />Soil and Water Conservation District $oard of 5upervisars for 35 years, and <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Patterson has traveled extensively assembling at his own expense mare <br />than a dozen slide programs an the stewardship of the earth which have been presented <br />to tens of thousands of people throughout this Nation, and <br />WHEREAS, in the course of Mr, Patterson's Service, the citizens of Orange County <br />have grown in knowledge and concern for the natural environment and for the protection <br />and responsible development of its resources, <br />NOW THEREFORE, the Orange County Board of Commissioners do recognize Mr. Quentin <br />Patterson for his contributions to the welfare of the community and honor him for <br />service benefiting generations to come. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS. <br />E. REPORTS <br />1. SANITATION GREEN BOX) SITES (A copy of the report is in the permanent agenda <br />file in the Clerk's Office). <br />A report was presented identifying where the present sites are located, where <br />the proposed consolidated sites will be located and the options available in the <br />future to address solid waste disposal for the rural areas. Wilbert McAdoo <br />illustrated with a slide presentation the present situation and the problems at the <br />sites. One of the problems is securing land to consolidate sites. There would be <br />between 20-30 dumpsters at each consolidated sites. He described the work schedule <br />which is followed by the eight sanitation workers, <br />Discussion ensued with Wilbert McAdoo answering questions and the Board <br />Members suggesting different alternatives for disposing of household and construction <br />
