15
Work Plan /Performance Measures
one -to -one basis twice a week. Based on Chapel Hill- Carrboro School District reports, a need exists
in the Chapel Hill- Carrboro School District ( CHCCS) to help improve the literacy skills of students in
pre -K to 2nd grade. CHCCS Volunteers & Partners for Education Office has developed and
administers a Reading Partners Program to help meet that need.
Of the estimated 2500 Pre -Kto 2nd graders in CHCCS (04 -05 school year), an average 290 students
are served by its Reading Partners Program.
RSVP volunteers will serve as reading and literacy tutors for pre -K -2 students in any of the Lt UUb
district's 9 elementary schools of their choice. The program asks that volunteers serve 2 hours
weekly for io weeks and tutor 2 different students 1:1.
Volunteers will tutor using the Book in a Bag program, made up of tutoring activities designed by
teachers to supplement classroom teaching. Volunteers arrive and pick up their tutoring 'bag" to go.
Literacy skills would include letter and word recognition, sounds, consonant cluster sounds, and
reading proficiency.
