ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS''--~~5 ' ~ ~~ - ~ ~ ~ <br />~-/ 1J - ~~ <br />RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE ORANGE CONGREGATIONS IN MISSION ~ ~ <br />FOR 25 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY <br />WHEREAS, Orange Congregations in Mission is celebrating 25 years of service to northern <br />Orange County and the surrounding communities; and <br />WHEREAS, OCIM works with the volunteer support of over 45 diverse congregations to <br />minister to the urgent needs of citizens to enhance self-sufficiency; and <br />WHEREAS, OCIM works through references from the Orange County Department of Social <br />Services, pastors of member congregations, Orange County Health Department, <br />American Red Cross, Orange County Schools, Orange County Sheriff's <br />Department, and Hillsborough Police Department; and. <br />WHEREAS, through the Samaritan Relief Ministry, OCIM has helped meet the emergency <br />needs of those who fmd themselves in a crisis situation by providing food, clothes, <br />utility payments, and/or shelter; and <br />WHEREAS, in 2005 OCIM, through its Samaritan Relief Ministry, assisted 4,432 individuals <br />and family members during their time of need with financial and spiritual support <br />and of those, 1,787 were children; and <br />WHEREAS, through the Meals on Wheels program, OCIM has provided food for the elderly <br />and homebound, serving over 11,000 meals in 2005; and <br />WHEREAS, the OCIM Thrift Shop offers recycling at a personal level by providing clothing <br />and household items for those on a low budget; and <br />WHEREAS, Orange County has received first hand observations of the positive impact of <br />OCIM services from Orange County Government employees who volunteered time <br />and energy in support of OCIM programs, especially with Meals on Wheels <br />delivering food; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Orange County Board of Commissioners do <br />hereby acknowledge the significant support and service to community members in <br />need provided by Orange Congregations in Mission over the past 25 years to make <br />Orange County a wonderful and compassionate place to live. <br />This the 10~' day of Apri12006. <br />~`- <br />Barry Jacobs -Chair <br />Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />
