I'm speaking on behalf of the organization Save <br />Duke Forest and the people we represent, many of whom are residents of <br />Orange County. <br />Save Duke Forest speaks for the estimoted one quarter of a <br />million people who each year visit the twelve land parcels that <br />comprise Duke Forest, among them ere: The Eno, The Blackwood, The <br />posting; The Korstian end The Durham Divisions. Duke graciously allows <br />public occess to these lands and for over 50 years we hove had a mutually <br />beneficial relationship. <br />To d$te, aver 9,000 citizens of Orange end Durham Counties hove <br />si ned nor petition urging Dure University to preserve end protect <br />9 <br />` ell 8,300 acres of Dure Forest. ~e have received copies of <br />hundreds of letters written by Dui:e Alumni end friends nsring <br />that Duke Forest be maintained $s it is currently being used. For <br />50 years use Of the forest as an educational and research facility has earned <br />Duke and the Triangle area international acclaim. <br />Over the past 16 months we have maintained a diclague with n wide <br />spectrum of the Duke community; students, faculty, employees,alumni and <br />trustees, as well as members of the Land Resources Committee and its <br />three subcommittees.lt seems clear to us that the h~rf; nLd soul of <br />Duke University is in support of Public interes <br />Zoning far Duke Forest lands in Orange County_ <br />Rom 3 Boa 4S0 - H~ssai~auo$ 1~C - ZTZ7~ • g19-T32-1575 <br />
