MINUTES <br />r Motion was made by Commissioner Willhoit, seconded by Commissioner Halkiotis to <br />approve the minutes for June 21, 19$8 as circulated. _~, <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS. <br />PUBLIC HEARING <br />1. Housing Demonstration Grant Application <br />Housing and Community Development Director Tara Fikes explained that the purpose <br />of the public hearing is to receive public comments at the beginning of the process <br />for applying for this housing demonstration grant. This project is to encourage <br />innovative and effective housing programs. The eligible projects under this program <br />are projects related to preservation and maintenance of low and moderate income <br />housing, adaptive reuse of structure for conversion to low and moderate income <br />housing and self-help approaches to housing rehabilitation or construction for low <br />and moderate income persons. Orange County is eligible to apply for a maximum grant <br />amount of $150,000. <br />THERE WERE NO CITIZEN COMMENTS AND THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS DECLARED CLOSED. <br />D. RESOLUTIONS OR PROCLAMATIONS <br />1. Proclamation of Women's Equality Day- <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Willhoit, seconded by Commissioner Halkiotis <br />to approve the proclamation as present and stated below: <br />WHEREAS, on August 26, 1920, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution of the United <br />States was ratified; and <br />WHEREAS, that amendment reads as follows: ;.,.; <br />"The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or ~-~ <br />abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex."; and <br />WHEREAS, the power of the vote is the gateway to continued improvements in the status <br />of women; and <br />WHEREAS, the Orange Gounty Gommission for Women advises the citizens and the Board of <br />Commissioners of Orange County of the status of women in Orange. County;. and <br />WHEREAS, that status remains unequal, especially economically and politically; and <br />WHEREAS, yet women make significant contributions economically, politically and in <br />myriad ways to Orange County, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Orange County Board of Gommissioners does hereby proclaim Friday, <br />August 26, 1988 as <br />WOMEN'S EQUALITY DAY <br />in celebration of women's contributions and their right to economic and political <br />equality and do hereby urge all citizens to work to guarantee full equality for all <br />women. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS. <br />
