~~~ <br />PROCLAMATION OF <br />"JULY IS NATIONAL RECREATION AND PARKS MONTH" <br />IN ORANGE COUNTY <br />Whereas, positive leisure experiences are vital to goad physical and mental <br />health, and enhance the quality of life for all people; and <br />Whereas, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners recognizes the <br />benefits derived to the County by offering these leisure <br />experiences; and <br />Whereas, the Orange County Recreation and Parks Department offers programs <br />encompassing a multitude of activities that can result in personal <br />accomplishment, self-satisfaction and family unity for all citizens, <br />regardless of their background, ability, level or age; and <br />Whereas, the Board of County Commissioners wishes to encourage and endorse <br />the concept of "July as National Recreation and Parks Month" in <br />Orange County; and <br />Whereas, Governor Martin has proclaimed "July is National Recreation and <br />Parks Month" in North Garalina; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED THAT THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS DOES HEREBY PROCLAIM "JULY IS NATIONAL RECREATION AND PARKS MONTH" <br />IN ORANGE COUNTY. <br />BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED that the Board of Commissioners encourages all <br />citizens of Orange County to participate in the leisure activities <br />sponsored by the Orange County Recreation and Parks Department, not <br />only during this designated month, but year-round. <br />This, the 5th day of July, 1988. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS. <br />REPORTS <br />1. EDC Preliminary Studv and Status of EDC Strategic Plan Preparation <br />Economic Development Director Sylvia Price presented background <br />information which led to the EDG Preliminary Study and gave a status report on <br />the Strategic Plan preparation. A major recommendation of the Preliminary Study <br />was that the EDC pursue the process of strategic planning. The Plan should have <br />a county-wide thrust, while taking into account the need £or different goals and <br />activities in the respective geographic areas of the County. She explained how <br />the process would be carried forward. <br />F. ITEMS FOR DECISION - CONSENT AGENDA <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Hartwell, seconded by Commissioner <br />Halkiotis to approve the items as listed on the Consent Agenda and stated below. <br />1.
