~~~ <br />By rational, we also mean Transportation Plans which complement <br />local land use planning rather than running over and ruining local <br />plans. <br />Section III - Environment - states - The Orange County Democratic Party <br />supports policies which guarantee clean water, clear air, and other <br />elements of a safe and attractive environment. We expect our elected <br />officials to ensure that industrial, commercial, agricultural, and <br />residential development does not lower the quality of the environment. <br />We support research by public and private institutions into the causes <br />and cures of pollution. <br />Under statements to local officials she emphasized: <br />County and municipal governments should identify and preserve natural, <br />open spaces far scenic, educational, and recreational pleasure. <br />County and municipal governments should set aside natural habitats for <br />the protection of wildlife and plant life. <br />Many citizens want the officials to make the decisions and plans now that <br />will enable everyone to enjoy benefits of open spaces and protected <br />watersheds. They want land use plans that are not constantly changing so <br />they can live in their neighborhoods with some feeling (at least <br />short-term) of stability and protection. <br />e. Bingham Township Land Use Plan Update <br />(Area within University Lake/New Hope Creek Basins) <br />2. ORANGE COUNTY COMPREHENSIVE PLAN - LAND USE ELEMENT <br />a. Bingham Township Land Use Plan Update <br />(Area outside of University Lake/New Hope Creek Basins) <br />The presentation was made by Planner Brad Torgan. <br />The amendment is treated as two separate items in the' agenda because a <br />portion of the Township lies within the Joint Planning Area. For <br />presentation purposes, however, the amendment is treated as a single <br />entity. <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners adapted the current Land Use <br />Plan, now the Land Use Element of the Comprehensive Plan, for the County <br />in September 1981. As part of the ongoing process of refining the Plan, <br />the Commissioners specified a five year plan update schedule upon <br />adoption of the original Plan. The Bingham Township Plan amendments <br />continue a process that began with revisions to the Little River Township <br />Plan in 1981. <br />Considerable effort has been made to inform and involve as many of the <br />Township's residents as possible, as well as other interested parties, in <br />the process of updating the Plan.
