■ <br />Recommendation : Focus local policies, priorities and funds on creating <br />a healthy environment for residents, and on <br />promoting healthy behaviors. Policies and funding <br />should support the following. <br />Action Strategies: <br />A. Develop public awareness campaigns on the major preventable causes of premature death. <br />B. Create ample safe sites for physical activity such as bikeways, sidewalks, jogging trails, <br />public basketball courts, parks, etc. <br />C. Provide nutrition education for all populations. <br />D. Address problems of teen pregnancies and teen abortions, HIV, poor parenting, child <br />abuse /neglect and sexual assault through better provision of age- appropriate family life <br />education. <br />E. Develop a public awareness and education campaign informing the public about mental <br />illness, its incidence, symptomology, treatment modalities, and prevention. <br />F. Develop a public awareness and education campaign informing the public about substance <br />abuse prevention. <br />Recommendation 2: Evaluate adequacy of health care facilities in <br />northern Orange County. <br />Recommendation : Encourage and continue provision and <br />enhancement of community based services that <br />meet the demand for treatment for mental health, <br />mental illness, and substance abuse. <br />Action Strategies: <br />A. Continue provision and enhancement of community based services that meet the needs of <br />children with developmental disabilities and behavioral issues. <br />B. Continue provision and enhancement of community based services that meet the needs of adults <br />with physical or mental disabilities, or mental illness. <br />C. Continue provision and enhancement of community based services that meet the needs of <br />victims of abuse or trauma. <br />79 <br />
