SOCF Timeline and Activities <br />November 1996- February 2000 <br />➢ November, 1996 - Task Force retreat focusing on team - building and conflict resolution <br />➢ December 10, 1996 — First Task Force meeting <br />➢ February- March, 1997 — Community SWOT <br />( Strengths/ Weaknesses /Opportunities /Threats) Exercise conducted <br />➢ May -June, 1997 — "What's On Your Mind" Community Forums and citizen surveys <br />➢ July- August 1997 — Plans for Citizen Committee Process <br />➢ September 1997 — Speaker Series for 6 Committee Topical Areas <br />➢ October 1997 - Citizen Committees formed (Economy, Education and Cultural Arts; <br />Environment and Resources; Human Services, Health and Safety; Land Use and Growth; <br />Transportation, Infrastructure and Services <br />➢ February — May 1998 — Children's Visioning Project to obtain 5th graders input into <br />shaping the future and teach them about planning and community building <br />➢ February 1998 — Sustainability "Umbrella" Committee begins work <br />➢ March 1998 — Community- Building "Umbrella" Committee begins work <br />➢ April 1998 — 6 Citizen committees complete reports <br />➢ June 1, 1998 — Interim Report and Update to Assembly of Governments <br />➢ June 25, 1998 — Reports of the Sustainability and Community- Building Committees <br />received <br />➢ July- September, 1998 — Synthesis Work Group prepares report coalescing work to date <br />➢ September- October, 1998 — Conflict /Opportunities Committee wrestles with identified <br />difficult issues <br />➢ October 1998 — January 1999 — "Orange County Profile" prepared by staff and received <br />by Task Force <br />➢ November 1998 - Step Six Work Group prepares plan for beginning to develop scenarios <br />of future and examines data needs <br />➢ January — March 1999 — Staff produces "Baseline Scenario — Year 2030" based on <br />current trends <br />➢ February -April 1999 — Task Force splits into three facilitated scenario work groups to <br />analyze baseline and develop a preferred vision of the future <br />➢ May -June 1999 — Task Force develops "A Preferred Scenario for Year 2030 ", to be <br />developed as a newspaper insert <br />➢ July- August 1999 — Task Force begins examining ways to take scenario and create <br />recommendations and the final report <br />➢ August - September, 1999 — Task Force conducts two "storyboarding" sessions to <br />brainstorm possible recommendations <br />➢ October, 1999 — Newspaper insert runs in Chapel Hill News, Village Advocate, and <br />News of Orange <br />➢ October 1999 — Task Force asks staff to develop "strawman" final report based on <br />guidance from Task Force <br />➢ November 1999 — Strawman report presented to Task Force. <br />➢ April 2000 — Task Force adopts provisional report and transmits to elected boards. <br />In order to know where we would like to go it's important to know where we have <br />been and where we are likely to go if present trends continue.
