Overview <br />In order to understand the relevant issues for creating a desirable future, it is important to <br />examine what past trends, and projections of these trends into the future, can tell us. Due to the <br />limits of space, this section largely focuses on the impacts of growth in the County since this is a <br />major impetus for the project. How much growth the County experiences, both in totality and <br />rate, as well as how this growth is handled will have major implications for quality of life in the <br />county. <br />A much more detailed look at status and trends relating to all the major issues covered by the <br />project, from j obs to housing to health care can be found in Appendices B and C. Appendix B, <br />the Orange County Profile, provides in -depth coverage of trends in recent years for all major <br />issues. Appendix C is a Baseline Scenario for the year 2030 that was created based on <br />projections of current trends. Details on data sources and how the projections were made can be <br />found in these appendices. <br />This section begins with a presentation of a historical overview of Orange County circa 1800 and <br />1900, and then details recent trends focusing on the impacts of growth on the County.
