D. RESOLUTIONS OR PROCLAMATIONS <br />®~ <br />1. OLDER AMERICANS MONTH <br />Betty Landsberger, Chair of the County Advisory Board on Aging, <br />_.. presented the following proclamation for approval: <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, According to the latest population figures, there are over <br /> 10,000 persons over 60 years of age in Orange County; and <br />WHEREAS, Orange County is proud of the older adults who live here and <br /> wishes to show appreciation for what they have given and for <br /> what they have contributed to their County, State and <br /> Nation; and, <br />WHEREAS, Because of them, the rest of the citizens enjoy the fruits <br /> of their visions and their labors, and their example is an <br /> inspiration to continue to make Orange County a good place <br /> in which to live; and, <br />WHEREAS, Orange County wishes to set aside a special month for <br /> recognition of the older segment of its citizenry; and, <br />NOW THEREFORE WE, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, join the <br /> Governor of North Carolina and the President of the United <br /> States in proclaiming May, 1988 as OLDER AMERICANS MONTH and <br /> further do encourage all citizens to join us in honoring our <br /> older Americans. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Carey, seconded by Commissioner <br />Halkiotis to approve the proclamation as stated above. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />...ADDED ITEM <br />2. RENAMING A PORTION OF HIGHWAY 15-501 <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Willhoit, seconded by Commissioner <br />"`°Carey to approve the resolution as stated below: <br />RESOLUTION <br />RENAMING A PORTION OF HIGHWAY 15-501 <br />IN HONOR OF <br />CHANCELLOR CHRISTOPHER FORDHAM <br />WHEREAS, Chancellor Christopher Fordham has served in exemplary <br />manner as Chancellor of the University of North Carolina in <br />Chapel Hill, <br />WHEREAS, Chancellor Christopher Fordham has recently announced his <br />retirement from the university this summer thus ending an <br />outstanding era of educational leadership, <br />WHEREAS, Chancellor Christopher Fordham has pledged his continued <br />support and dedication to our educational system, <br />WHEREAS, the orange County Board of Commissioners wishes to join the <br />North Carolina Department of Transportation in honoring one <br />of North Carolina's best educators, <br />NOW, THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED <br />that the Orange County Board of Commissioners supports the <br />renaming of a portion of highway 15- 501 in honor of <br />Chancellor Christopher Fordham. The proposed section would <br />be from the Chapel Hill city limits, near Durham, to the <br />highway 54 intersection, toward Graham. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS. <br />F.
