3 <br />Predevelopment projects may include: archaeological investigations, architectural plans and <br />specifications, engineering services, or feasibility studies for restoration. <br />Development projects may include archaeological excavations or restoration/rehabilitation of <br />historic structures. Structures or sites must be Ilsted in the National Register of Historic <br />Places, either individually or as a contributing property within a National Register historic <br />district. <br />Owners of the assisted property must sign a Preservation Agreement. Grants in excess of <br />$5,000 require time-limited Restrictive Covenants registered with the deed to the property. <br />NOTE FOR CLG APPLICANTS: All projects must be located within the jurisdiction of the <br />approved local government. <br />APPLICATION PROCESS <br />Projects in CLG Jurisdictions: Send the completed original application and three copies to <br />the CLG in whose jurisdiction the project will take place by December 15. 1997. The CLG <br />commission will evaluate all applications received by the December 15 deadline and submit the <br />original and two copies to the HPO by January 31. 1998 (one copy should be retained for the <br />CLG's files). <br />Projects in Non-CLG Areas: Send the completed original application and two copies to the <br />HPO by January 31. 1998. <br />Mail original and two copies of applications to: Grants Administrator, <br />State Historic Preservation Office, 109 East Jones Street, Raleigh, NC 27601-2807. <br />(Note: applications sent by fax or a-mail are not acceptable) <br />Successful applications will be announced in March, 1998. Projects may begin <br />April 1, 1998. <br />Projects must be completed by July 31, 1999. <br />YOU SHOULD ALSO KNOW THAT: <br />* HPO staf)' will work with applicants to fully develop project proposal, including a realistic <br />budget (see contacts below). <br />* Grant funds may represent up to 609'0 of total project costs. The nonfederal matching <br />share must constitute at least 409'0 of project costs. <br />* Federal standards and accounting procedures apply to grants. <br />* Payment of grant funds is on a reimbursement basis. <br />13 <br />
