INSTRUCTIONS FOR <br />1998 PIISTORIC PRESERVATION FUND GRANT APPLICATION <br />State Historic Preservation Office <br />Division of Archives and History <br />North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources <br />Deadline for Submission: January 31, 1998 <br />(note special deadline for projects in CLG areas) <br />INTRODUCTION <br />Please use the attached application form for proposed projects funded by the 1998 Historic <br />Preservation Fund (HPF), a federal matching grant program made available to the State <br />Historic Preservation Office (HPO) through the United States Department of the Interior's <br />National Park Service. All projects must address one or more goals included in Legacy, North <br />Carolina's comprehensive historic preservation plan (see enclosed list of Goals and <br />Objectives). <br />11 <br />Grant funding for 1998 is estimated to range between $70, 000 and $130, 000, depending on <br />Congressional action. In accordance with federal requirements, $65-70,000 of the state's <br />allocation will be reserved for grants in communities that participate in the Certified Local <br />Government (CLG) program (see enclosed map and list of contacts). <br />New projects may include survey and planning activities or predevelopment and development <br />projects. Priority will be given to projects involving completion of the statewide <br />architectural and archaeological surveys. <br />After review by the HPO, your proposed project(s) may be included in the 1998 Application <br />for Federal Assistance to the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. If <br />federal assistance becomes available, you may be asked to submit additional information. <br />NOTE: SPECIAL DEADLINES FOR PROJECTS IN CLG AREAS. <br />Preservation organizations sponsoring projects that are located within a CLG jurisdiction must <br />be reviewed and submitted to the HPO by the authorized CLG (or its designated CLG <br />commission). These applications should be delivered to the appropriate CLG sta„~`', not the <br />HPO, by December 15, 1997.
