Crow, Director <br /> <br />This memorandum is to announce the application period for 1998 federal Historic Preservation <br />Fund (HPF) grants. An estimated $70-130,000 (depending on Congressional action) may be <br />available in matching funds for preservation grants to local communities or nonprofit <br />organizations. In accordance with federal requirements, $65-70,000 of the state's allocation <br />must be reserved for grants to communities that participate in the Certified Local Government <br />(CLG) program (see enclosed map). <br />I enclose a 1998 Grant Application packet. The narrative information and application form can <br />be used by both CLG and non-CLG applicants and for all types of projects. A competitive <br />process is used to select all recipients. Grants aze awarded on a 60/40 matching basis, and <br />range from $5,000 to $15,000. All projects must be completed by July 31, 1999. <br />Eligible projects include architectural and archaeological surveys, preparation of nominations <br />to the National Register of Historic Places, local government preservation plans, and the <br />preservation of properties listed in the National Register. Educational programs, reseazch, and <br />publications aze usually not funded.
