2 <br />STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES <br />All projects must address one or more of the goals included in Legacy, North Cazoiina's <br />comprehensive historic preservation plan. Reference to specific goals objectives and a <br />statement of how the project will accomplish them (see enclosed information) should be <br />included in the Abstract of the Proposed Project (Part III of Application Form). <br />Activities funded under this program will be performed in compliance with the applicable <br />Secretary of the Interior's "Standazds and Guidelines for Archeology and Historic <br />Preservation, " and shall be conducted under the supervision of the Historic Preservation <br />Office. <br />Professional qualifications of the staff, consultants, or principal investigators undertaking the <br />grant project(s) must meet the applicable minimal professional qualifications in 36 CFR 61, <br />Appendix A. <br />All federal grant applications include an Equal Opportunity Statement form which must be <br />completed and returned with the application. Applications without this form will not be <br />considered for funding. <br />SELECTION CRITERIA <br />All proposals will be reviewed and evaluated on the basis of the <br />following: <br />* emphasis in azeas of known development activity <br />* benefit to minority and/or disabled populations <br />* contribution to statewide azchitectural or archaeological inventory of historic resources <br />* quality of resources in project azea <br />* soundness of project application <br />* impact on local community <br />For more information contact Lloyd Childers, grants administrator, Historic Preservation <br />Office, 109 East Jones Street, Raleigh, NC 27601-2807. Telephone: (919) 733-4763 <br />ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS AND ACTIVITIES <br />Eligible applicants include: Local governments; universities; private nonprofit organizations; <br />Certified Local Governments (CLGs) or potential CLGs which will be certified by Mazch, <br />1998. Information on the status of CLG certification may be obtained from Lloyd Childers, <br />grants administrator/CLG coordinator, administration, at (919) 733-4763. <br />Eligible activities: Survey and Planning. Priority consideration for funding will be given to <br />projects for comprehensive azchitectural or archaeological surveys and nominations to the <br />National Register of Historic Places. Preservation planning activities; development of <br />educational materials, and preparation of publishable manuscripts from approved architectural <br />surveys aze also eligible for consideration. Publication of surveys, museum exhibits, research, <br />and educational programs usually aze not funded. <br />12 <br />
