29 <br />County Outcomes <br />1. 100% of the Work First participants who no longer qualify for assistance will have access to a <br />safety net of services, including education and skills training. <br />2. 100% of the Work First participants who are employed below a living wage will have access <br />to a safety net of services, including education and skills training. <br />Short Term Strategies for Support Services. <br />• Develop a personalized transportation plan that includes what the recipient can do on their <br />own behalf, who they can ask for help and what to do in emergencies <br />• Expand existing services and develop new services <br />• Advertise the rural Orange bus schedule <br />• Collaborate with the Triangle Transit Authority to install ride - share, van pool signs in <br />northern part of county <br />• Issue transportation vouchers for Work First recipients to use on public buses and van pools <br />or for private transportation services such as buses and taxis <br />• Contract with privately owned services such as taxis and bus systems <br />• Seek good Samaritan legislation to limit liability for volunteers who drive Work First <br />participants or their children. <br />• Collaborate with the local public school systems for Work First participants to serve as bus <br />monitors <br />• Seek additional state funds for subsidized child care for WORK FIRST participants <br />• Create a dedicated child care funding source for mandatory recipients <br />• Seek legislation to remove the self - support reserve in calculating child support for non <br />custodial parent. <br />• Work with District Court Judges to gain better enforcement of child support orders <br />• Advocate for legislation to provide tax incentives to employers who provide sick child care <br />and child and dependent care during non - traditional hours <br />• Contract with other agencies to employ alternative strategies to help the hard to place <br />participants <br />Long Term Strategies for Support Services <br />• Work with city bus system to make bus schedules more compatible with worker's schedules <br />and not so exclusively tied to UNC schedule <br />• Expand the County transportation system <br />• Develop centralized pickup and drop -off points and park -ride lots <br />• Develop church car pools that are accessed through centralized phone services, especially for <br />emergency transportation needs <br />• Expand donor car program to make donated cars in good condition available to Work First <br />participants <br />• Develop relationship with car repair shops to donate $300 or more per year worth of car <br />repairs per year for Work First recipients <br />• Work with local schools and community colleges to provide low cost car repair for Work <br />First participants in cooperation with car repair training programs at local high schools <br />• Hire a transportation (mobility) manager to coordinate transportation ideas <br />W <br />
