More than 50 citizens participated in the work of The Task Force.
In October 1996, the Task Force presented its preliminary report to the Board of
Commissioners.
Based on the foundation of the 1996 report and the direction of the NC General
Assembly, more than 30 members of the original Task Force reconvened in October 1997
to draft the Orange County Work First Plan. In addition to identifying goals, outcomes
and strategies specific to Orange County's population, the Task Force developed
strategies to meet the primary statewide goals of: Reducing the Work First Caseload;
Putting Adults to Work; Staying Off Welfare After Going to Work; and Avoiding
Welfare Through Diversion Assistance.
The Orange County Work First Plan was available for public review and comment from
December 22, 1997 through January 12, 1998.
