The Board directed the preparation of a
Living Wage Ordinance for its consideration following a public hearing
during which it will receive public comment on the coverage and other
content of the proposed ordinance.
Generally the proposed ordinance will require those contracting with Orange
County to pay their employees a living wage when the purpose of the
contract is to provide services to Orange County or its citizens that Orange
County could provide with its own employees. The proposed ordinance will
also cover construction contracts, to the extent permitted by the public
bidding laws. It will also propose that businesses receiving the benefits of
loans from the Orange County loan pool, economic development grants, and
other financial aid pay their employees a living wage.
1
