ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: February 17, 1998
Action Agenda
Item No. /p - C-
SUBJECT: Triangle Transit Authority - Annual Financial Report and Station Area Development
Guidelines
DEPARTMENT: County Manager PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N)
BUDGET AMENDMENT: (Y/N):
ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT:
Annual Financial Report John Link, ext 2300
Station Area Development Guidelines Wilbert McAdoo, ext 2625
(both sent previously under separate cover)
TELEPHONE NUMBERS:
Hillsborough 732 -8181
Chapel Hill 968 -4501
Durham 688 -7331
Mebane 227 -2031
PURPOSE: To receive information from the Triangle Transit Authority (TTA) regarding their
Annual Financial Report and Station Area Development Guidelines for Regional Transit Stations.
BACKGROUND: The Chair of the Triangle Transit Authority Board of Trustees has asked to
present their Annual Financial Report for the year ending June 30, 1997, and their recently adopted
Station Area Development Guidelines. These Guidelines are the product of a cooperative process
with local government staff, representatives from the community, and the TTA. They define and
illustrate the opportunities and challenges of building livable communities and transit supportive
development, and the principal elements of compact, mixed -use, pedestrian- oriented land use. The
Guidelines also include implementation tools and strategies that may be used by the public and
private sectors to facilitate such development.
TTA's intent for the Guidelines includes broadening the Triangle Community's understanding of
the relationship between pedestrian- oriented land uses and multi -modal transportation, and
assisting local governments in preparing small area and compact neighborhood plans in the areas
surrounding regional transit stations.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive the reports as
information.
