IBM would provide six <br />computers and two printers and BellSouth would provide <br />$18,000 ($9,000 per year)for any startup /operational expenses. <br />The Dept. on Aging's Senior Center staff would be responsible <br />for the following: <br />(1) provide a suitable room at the Chapel Hill Senior Center <br />with furnishings for the Learning Center. (BellSouth <br />would cover the upfit expenses.) <br />(2) maintain the Learning Center for five years.(Agreement <br />includes a provision to terminate in two years if not <br />satisfactory.) <br />(3) require SeniorNet membership of participating seniors. <br />(Scholarships are available.) <br />(4) identify and retain a Learning Center Coordinator on a <br />volunteer basis. The Coordinator would be responsible <br />for organizing classes, recruiting instructors and <br />students, and - monitoring Center activities. <br />(5) heavily recruit IBM and BellSouth seniors to serve as <br />coordinators, instructors and members of a SeniorNet <br />Advisory Council. <br />(6) identify a core group of senior volunteers and <br />instructors who would attend special training in <br />SeniorNet operations and curriculum. <br />(7) provide training in using SeniorNet Online through Center <br />classes. <br />(8) cooperate with IBM and BellSouth representative(s) to <br />market the SeniorNet program, especially to IBM and <br />BellSouth Seniors /retirees. <br />(9) provide financial reports and an annual evaluation of the <br />SeniorNet Program. <br />RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends approval:(1)to sign the agreement <br />with SeniorNet for establishing a Learning Center and <br />(2) to accept and budget $10,000 from non - county funds <br />provided by SeniorNet and BellSouth for upfit and <br />operations. <br />FN:AB80217c.Doc <br />2 <br />
