Passmore <br />Certified Statement <br />Hillsborough 732 -8181 <br />Chapel Hill 968 -4501 <br />Mebane 227 -2031 <br />Durham 688 -7331 <br />----------------------------------------------------------------------- <br />PURPOSE: To apply for and accept by Feb. 27, 1998 $7,845 in <br />special state operating funds designated for Orange County <br />and $10,000 of Demonstration Project funds to support Work <br />First /Employment transportation needs. <br />BACKGROUND: The N.C. Dept. of Transportation Public Transportation <br />Division has available for FY97 -98 $1 Million for Work <br />First /Employment Transportation Operating Assistance funds. The <br />funds will be provided to each county through a formula based <br />on rural population and Work First caseload. Based on the <br />formula, Orange County's allocation is $7,845 to be used between <br />January 1, 1998 and September 30, 1998. <br />Orange County Public Transportation Program (OPT)will administer <br />the funds. The funds would be used to purchase trips to the <br />employment training center and to work sites. The service would <br />be provided by existing public providers, specifically the <br />Chapel Hill Transit, OPT and the Triangle Transit Authority (TTA). <br />OPT will work closely with the Dept. of Social Services in <br />identifiying eligible participants. <br />
