VIC KNIGHT , spoke in support of the Orange County School budget. <br />He noted the County is experiencing growth. As new people come into the <br />County they request information on the schools. They want to be assured <br />that the County provides quality education. <br />63. GLENDA HARRIS Board Member of the Coalition for Battered Women, <br />talked about and described the advocacy program which served 152 persons in <br />Orange County. The shelter program provides safe housing for women and <br />children. During x.986; the shelter offered housing to 23 families. The <br />community education program places emphasis on the importance of prevention <br />through education. The last program added to the services. is the <br />counseling program. She asked continued funding for the services provided <br />by the Coalition. <br />64. MIKE SHARP., Child Care Networks, asked that the Commissioners <br />consider funding the requested amount. The additional funding requested <br />would be used to consolidate all the information about children resources <br />in the County.. <br />65. BEN LLOYD spoke in support of the School System. He asked that <br />the Commissioners do as much as they can to support the Schools. He <br />expressed concern about accountability and the low fund balance. He <br />suggested that the schools be funded first and that the remaining items in <br />the-budget b'e prioritized before funding. <br /> <br />6F. EVE SHY , resident of Bingham Township and a volunteer at the <br />shelter for the homeless, spoke about the shelter. She stated that the:~~'~~`; <br />shelter is the pits. There is no privacy and the facility is not the best. <br />Tn the new facility, they plan to include a community kitchen and`,_,;,_ <br />additional space for each individual. She urged the Commissioners to fund <br />as much of the request as possible. <br />WITH NO FURTHER COMMENTS THE PUBLrC HEARING WAS CLOSED. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />Upon a motion -made by Commissioner Carey, seconded by Commissioner <br />Halkiotis, the meeting was adjourned. The next regular meeting will be <br />held on June 16, 1987 at 7:30 p.m. in the Courtroom of the old Post Office, <br />Chapel Hill, North Carolina,. <br />Shirley E.
