SCHOOL MERGER RESOLUTION <br />Commissioner Hartwell presented and read the following <br />resolution: <br />A RESOLUTION REGARDING SCHOOL MERGER <br />WHEREAS the citizens of orange County have long distinguished <br />themselves by their commitment to public education, and <br />WHEREAS they have been well served in this commitment by Boards of <br />Commissioners, Boards of Education- and professional ,staffs wha have <br />provided the leadership and organization necessary to secure excellence <br />in education, and <br />WHEREAS both school systems in Orange County have demonstrated their <br />readiness to cooperate in the best interests of students and taxpayers <br />throughout the county, and - <br />WHEREAS this Board does now reaffirm its own dedication to equal <br />opportunity and quality education for all of the citizens, <br />THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS DO THEREFORE IMPLORE the `::..-. <br />legislative delegation from this district, and all North Carolina <br />legislators, to fully fund the state's Sasic Education Plan so that we <br />may have the necessary resources, and to leave administrative questions <br />such as the merging of our school districts to the judgment and <br />discretion of orange County and its citizenry. <br />This the 24th day of February, 1987. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Carey, seconded by Commissioner <br />Halkiotis to approve the resolution an School Merger, to authorize the <br />Chair to sign and to send copies to the State legislature and NCACC. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS. <br />3. COST E UALIZATION FUND FOR SECONDARY ROAD FUNDING <br />The following resolution was presented for consideration of <br />approval: <br />A RESOLUTION CONCERNING COST EQUALIZATION <br />FOR SECONDARY ROAD FUNDING <br />WHEREAS, the Orange Caunty Board of Caunty Commissioners recognizes <br />that good roads are essential to the development and economic growth of <br />any county; and <br />WHEREAS, the percentage of secondary road funds for a Caunty is <br />determined by dividing the mileage of secondary roads in that county by <br />the total mileage of secondary roads in the state; and <br />WHEREAS, the current statewide formula for the distribution of <br />secondary road funds does not take into consideration the extra cost of <br />
