FLOOD DAMAGE PREVENTION ORDINANCE AMENDMENTS <br />The presentation was made by Greg Szymick. <br />On August 25, 1986, the Federal Emergency Management Agency <br />(FEMA) published final. rules revising National Flood Insurance Program <br />(NFTP) criteria. The criteria became effective October 1, 1986 and <br />require, as a continued validity, that communities revise their <br />floodplain management regulations to make them consistent with NFIP <br />criteria within six months of the effective date. <br />Orange County's Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance must be <br />revised to bring it into compliance no later than April 1, 1987. <br />.- The proposed revisions provide for: changes in the <br />definitions of "mobile Names" (now "manufactured homes") and "start of <br />construction"; flood proofing of mechanical and utility equipment; the <br />use of openings in enclosures below a structure's lowest float; the use <br />~., of available flood data; and certification of floor elevations. <br />WITH NO PUBLIC COMMENTS, THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Hartwell, seconded by Commis- <br />sioner Carey to refer the proposed amendments to the Flood Damage <br />Prevention Ordinance to the Planning Board for their recommendation to <br />the Board of Commissioners on March 24, 1987. <br />VOTE: Unanimous. <br />With no further business to come before the Boards, the meeting was <br />adjourned at 12:30 a.m. The next regular meeting of the Board of <br />Commissioners will be held on March 2, 1987, 7:30 p.m. in the courtroom <br />of the Old Courthouse, Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br />Shirley E.
