4 -I <br />.DATE: April 15, 1998 <br />TO: John Link, County Manager- <br />FROM: Wilbert McAdoo, Public Works Director <br />RE: Northern Center Building Improvements <br />The following information and attachments have been provided to address the <br />issues raised in the memo dated 04/03/98 from Occupants of the Northern <br />Center to the Orange County Board of Commissioners. <br />1. The County has conducted regular tests of the water system at the Northern <br />Center. Test results have consistently met the Public Water System <br />Standards for North Carolina. The Public Works Department will seek <br />approval from the NCDEHNR Division of Environmental Health, Public Water <br />Supply Section for installation of a water filtration system in an effort to <br />improve the taste of drinking water at the Northern Center. Public Works staff <br />can provide detailed information, at the Board's request, regarding recent <br />water quality test results for the water supply system at the Northern Center. <br />These reports include NCDEHNR Division of Environmental Health, Public <br />Water Supply Section, Report of Contact/Inspection of PWS dated 04/06/98; <br />a bacteriological analysis and nitrate and nitrite analysis from Aqau Tech <br />environmental Laboratories Inc. dated 03/31/98; and Northern Center Water <br />System Failure Chronology Of Events dated 04/15/98. <br />2. The need for a new central heating and air conditioning system for the <br />Northern Center has been identified by the Public Works Department in CIP <br />budget requests since 1993/94. The Manager's recommended CIP for the <br />1998/99 fiscal year includes a $300,000 allocation for private placement <br />funding of a new HVAC system for this facility. <br />3. Public Works Department will coordinate with the Parks and Recreation <br />Department to identify appropriate exterior lighting that meets all safety needs <br />but that will not disturb neighbors, and will facilitate installation by June 30, <br />1998. <br />4. This item has been included in the recommended CIP for the 1998/99 fiscal <br />year, and will be addressed by the Parks and Recreation Department. <br />5. The Manager's Recommended CIP for the 1998/99 fiscal year includes <br />funding for a canopy over the southside entrance. <br />Northern Center Building Improvements Memo 1 4/16/98 <br />
