The Board of <br />Directors of the Association approved supporting the House <br />Speaker's proposal to increase to $25,000 both the amount of <br />property excluded and the income threshold for the homestead <br />exemption provided there is 1000 State reimbursement to local <br />governments of the approximately $8 million that will be lost to <br />local governments by this change. The Board of Directors' "plan <br />B" is to support the change in the Homestead Exemption provided <br />that the State reimburses local- governments for half of all <br />revenues lost to them because of the Homestead Exemption, <br />including that that will be lost if the exemption is increased. <br />In response to this I am providing the enclosed resolution <br />related to legislative matters which is an alternative to the <br />resolution considered by you at your last meeting and adds <br />support of the County Commissioners Association position on .the <br />Homestead Exemption. It also continues to include support of the <br />passage of a bill calling for the study of additional property <br />tax discounts for the elderly. I do not see support of the <br />present Homestead Exemption increase being in conflict with a <br />3 <br />
