" BACKGROUND: At the April 21, 1998 meeting, the Board approved the remainder of the countywide network upgrade and installation, in accordance with the Information Technology (IT) Plan initiatives and the recommendations of the IT Committee. The action requested is the approval of an agreement with BellSouth Telecommunications Inc. to provide the necessary support for this installation and frame relay network service. This phase of network installation will complete connection of County facilities at Emergency Management, the Chapel Hill Senior Center, Skills Development Center, Child Support Enforcement, Public Works and the Can Building (Planning and Agriculture). This agreement is similar to the one approved by the Board of Commissioners in January, 1998 that led to the successful implementation of the computer network at the Southern Human Services Center in March, 1998. Funding for this contract is included in the budget for the Information Technology Project in the 1997-2007 CIP. RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the contract with BellSouth and authorize the Chair to sign, subject to final review by the County Attorney.
