C6015 -7/98 <br />TRANSPORTATION COORDINATOR 15 <br />GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br />Performs intermediate technical work arranging methods of transportation to work and/or <br />training sites, as well as other designated places for Work First clients and other citizens <br />of Orange County. <br />Work is performed under general supervision. <br />TYPICAL TASKS: <br />Consults with Department of Social Services to obtain information on Work First clients; <br />Interviews clients /citizens to determine transportation needs; <br />Creates and maintains database of client/citizen information; <br />Determines the most appropriate or feasible means of transportation for clients /citizens; <br />Consults with employers to consider alternatives in work hours to assist with <br />transportation needs; <br />Works with representatives from public and private transportation systems in Orange, <br />Durham and Wake Counties to arrange transportation; <br />Creates and identifies non - traditional means of transportation such as school buses, motor <br />vehicle donations, church/community volunteer drivers and the like); <br />Makes arrangements for clients to receive special funds, passes, identification cards and <br />the like for transportation; <br />Provides clients /citizens with information on types of public /private transportation; <br />Develops individual transportation plans, as well as other alternatives for back -up <br />transportation; <br />Performs related tasks as required. <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br />General knowledge of the principles and practices of transportation operations (i.e. <br />Triangle Transit Authority and Orange Public Transportation; general knowledge of <br />social, economic and health problems; ability to identify social problems and needs that <br />serve as transportation barriers; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; <br />ability to use creativity in developing transportation plans; ability to establish and <br />maintain effective relationships with clients, citizens, officials and the general public; <br />ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. <br />EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br />Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an <br />accredited community college with major course work in social work, psychology, <br />counseling or related field and at least 2 years experience in social work, counseling, <br />human services, transportation or related area. <br />
