14 <br />C3155 -7/98 <br />EROSION CONTROL OFFICER II <br />GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br />Performs difficult technical work enforcing erosion control ordinances by reviewing proposed <br />development plans and permit applications; and performing inspections for compliance with <br />approved plans. <br />Work is performed under general supervision. <br />TYPICAL TASKS: <br />Reviews proposed development plans for compliance with erosion and sediment control <br />requirements; <br />Informs all parties of areas needing improvements in the proposed development plan so that <br />changes are made before final plan is approved; <br />Discusses plans and revisions with engineers, surveyors, and other plan preparers and prepares <br />letters of approval; <br />Prepares correspondence detailing deficiencies in the proposed plan and suggestions for revising <br />the plan so that it can be approved; <br />Reviews permit applications for erosion and sediment control plan approval for compliance with <br />County standards; checks and receipts application fees; <br />Inspects construction sites for compliance with approved erosion control plans; <br />Participates in preconstruction conferences with all involved parties; <br />Initiates and resolves enforcement actions for violations of the Ordinance; <br />Prepares proposed revisions to the County and Chapel Hill Erosion Control Ordinances and the <br />Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Manual; <br />Performs research and investigations into improving existing erosion and sediment control <br />measures and devices to reduce sediment pollution; <br />Performs related tasks as required. <br />KNOWLEDGE. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br />Thorough knowledge of basic civil engineering principles, practices and techniques; thorough <br />knowledge of erosion control principles and laws; general knowledge of engineering and <br />surveying techniques; general knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment; <br />thorough knowledge of the ordinances related to erosion control; ability to prepare technical <br />engineering reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with <br />associates, public and private agency officials and the general public. <br />EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br />Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited <br />college or university with major course work in engineering, geology, soil science or related field <br />and at least 3 years experience in construction, engineering, design, soil conservation, erosion <br />control or related experience. <br />
