Addendum #3 <br />II <br />CENTER FOR EMPLOYMENT TRAINING <br />GENERAL TRAINING NARRATIVE <br />PROGRALLt SUNWARY <br />The CET Training Design — Comprehensive, InteVwed Training Accessible to All <br />Center for Employment Training (CET) is a private nonprofit corporation which operates one of the nation's <br />largest networks of community -based tanning schools. CET directly manages 23 training centers in California and <br />six centers in New Yodc Maryland, Virginia, Mmois. Nevada and Florida. It also provides technical assis7 = to <br />other corporations which operate CET traiaiag centers. CET employs over 350 staff and manages the program <br />from its training and adminisuaiion faaiity in San Jose. California. <br />• Founded in 1 967, CET was established to train those who are not well served by mainstream edurvonal <br />insdurticas -- people whose language, reading and math skMs are so limited they can't get into or have dropped out <br />of public schools or who have left those schools without maxtesable skills. <br />In order to help these students overcome their multiple barriers, CFI' provides a aompreheusive vocational <br />training program which integrates English language and basic stalls instruction with and in the cunt= of <br />vocational training. <br />Unlike almost all other public and private schools and training program operators, CET does not require basic <br />stalls entry prerequisites for its courses. Bec=se each student's amtr=onal plan is customized to correspond with <br />Ids or her needs and abilities, most readily gain the skills needed to obtain a job in their chosen <br />occupational field CE rs program is a practical and effective model for training the labor force of the '90s. <br />PRGGRA�IM PLAN <br />The CET Training Design -- Comprehensive, Iategrsted Training Accessible to All <br />CET designed its training program specifically to serve those who fan multiple and severe barriers to gamin, <br />self- soffilciency Consequently, it otTers a eve set of services geamufly not found is a single emplavmear <br />training prograat Ice addition, it ides services in such a way as to make training more effideat and effective. <br />Services iaddudo: <br />• Vocational Training <br />• Basic Skills Remediation <br />• English as a Second Language Iastnaction <br />• GED Instruction <br />• Vocational Guidance and Support Advising <br />• Pre- employmem and Work Matmrity Training <br />• Support Services Referral and Advocacy <br />• Job Developmeat <br />• Follow -up Servicer <br />Training Accessible to All — No Entry PreregWsiw or Creaming <br />CET admits students withcw requiring that they meet prerequisites. It does not screen out applicants who are <br />weak in math+ reading or English — ingead it ocLChes these skills along with a vocational skill. Everyone who <br />applies to CET and mars funding source guidelines can get in — even those who do not speak English or are <br />illiterate in their =five language. <br />
