The training program is designed
for individuals whose language, reading and math skills are so limited they can not get
into or have dropped out of public schools or who left public schools without marketable
skills. In addition to vocational training, CET provides job development and placement
services for these students.
Orange County Department of Social Services has referred participants to CET for two
years. During that two year period, the North Carolina Division of Social Services had a
contractual arrangement with CET. The state covered the cost of tuition for Work First
participants. However, the Division allocated funds directly to counties for Fiscal Year
1998 -99. Orange County received an allocation of $161,955 to purchase vocational skills
training from CET.
