Attachment <br />C3197 -8/98 <br />VISITOR BUREAU DIRECTOR <br />GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br />Performs complex professional and difficult administrative work planning, directing and <br />coordinating visitor services in Orange County. <br />Work is performed under me general supervision of the Orange County Economic Development <br />Director with input received from the Chapel HilVOrange County Visitors Bureau Board. <br />Supervision is exercised over all division personnel. <br />TYPICAL TASKS: <br />Develops plans and strategies to attract visitors and promote and enhance visitor services, <br />including identification of activities, facilities and services available for visitors; <br />Supervises and directs the work of Visitor Borrow staff; <br />Develops a containing program to increase the number of visitors to Orange Cowry and to <br />encourage longer stays; <br />Recruits new visitors to Orange County, including conferences, conventions, box tours, events, <br />church groups and the like as identified in an aunual marketing plan; <br />Manages a comprehensive communications program which includes visitor services publications <br />and directories; <br />Coordinates visitor group activities and local response such as transportation, group packages, <br />local briefings and business responses; <br />Develops the division's budget for the Visitors Bureau Board and Board of County <br />Commissioner's consideration; <br />Performs related tasks as required. <br />KNOWLEDGES SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />Comprehensive knowledge of the visitor services, hospitality and tourism industry including <br />conventionessamence marketing and management; thorough knowledge of laws and regulations <br />underlying the visitor services industry; thorough knowledge of organization and management <br />principles and practices; ability to analyze and evaluate a variety of programs and develop and <br />implement plans, structures and systems responsive to identified needs; ability to establish and <br />maintain eff xtive working relationships with rite Visitors Bureau Board and a wide range of <br />public and private organizations and the general public; ability to communicate ideas clearly and <br />concisely, both orally and in wining; ability to plan and supervise dte work of subordinates. <br />EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br />Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited <br />college or university with major course work in business administration, public admitdstratiom <br />communications, hoteVmotel management, sales, marketing or related field and at least how <br />yens professional experience in hospitality, tourism, visitor services program management or <br />related field, including responsibility for progress development, marketing and badgering, and <br />supervisory experience. <br />
