Likewise, the plans of the owner are not germane to consideration of <br />whether land is suitable for classification as Public Interest Area. <br />• This property contains part of a proposed wildlife condor identified by Triangle Land Conservancy in <br />1988 Inventory of Natural Areas and Wildlife Habitats- This property offers an important lip r to the <br />Eno River corridor and offers 62 acres of forested land that could provide an Important wildlife conduit <br />and protects large natural areas to maintain communities of flora and fauna. <br />• While this site is not listed in the 1998 Inventory as containing significant natural resources or wildlife <br />habitats, the Inventory was incomplete and followup work is needed to fully assess the Cowry's <br />resources. Waiting for the results of followup investigation might enable a more- knowledgeable <br />decision to he made. <br />• Insufficient indonration is available as to any cement or archaeological significance the site may have, nor <br />does it address any of reasons for pmeMing the plan (Section B, page 2 -3) beyond Duke's interest in <br />selling the property. A thorough asessment of the natured resource significance of the site has not been <br />undertaken, and will be necessary in order to make a knowledgeable recommendation on whether this <br />Property has resource significance woMy of continuing to he a Public Interest Area Ships forestry is only <br />one possible use of IarM in a PIA, staff recommends further research he undertaken to asset the <br />significance of any natural or cWntml resources on site before a decision is made.
