In addition ~o a Ytedical Direc~oq the Hospital also provides a nurse liaison whose primary functions <br />include Facihtating skill evaluanons, special tminivg sessions, tecMieim review with the staff twining <br />o(fceq and assisting in writing Ne required two year training program for Stam apprm'al. The Hospital <br />provides computer support foahe EMS database which includes patient medical records, and analy~ieal <br />programs with interp¢mtioo o[da[e. The Hospial also allows paramedics to pwc[ice and perform skill <br />pmfciency in the Emergency Department, OB-GYN, and operating arenaz of the Hospital <br />The cost of the contract for 1998-99 is 530,000. Funding for tM contract is included in the 1998-99 <br />operating budget of the Emergrncy Management Department. Staffesfimates that Ne Hospital <br />allocates to the EMS program roughly 20 hours per week ofthe medical directoi s time, i0 hours per <br />week of the nurse liaison's time, and IS haws ptt week of the computer tech support position's time. <br />Due m the medical director's commitments to Ne EMS program, [he Hospital is obliged ro replace Dr. <br />Mears in his emergency depamnmt clinical rotations from time to time. Fwdmg from this contract <br />helps the Hospital offset the costs of providing physician coverage for Dr. Mears. <br />The Omnge CountyNNC Hospitals EMS program received high marks in i¢ mart recem evaluation by <br />the State Offce of Emergency Medical Services.
