27 <br />Natural Resource Conservation Manager <br />This new position would be located in the Environment and Resource <br />Conservation Department (ERCD) and report to the Department head. <br />This position will work with the other members of the ERCD on the creation, <br />maintenance and implementation of the County's strategic natural resource <br />conservation plan, focusing on the following areas: <br />Identification of Resources: This position will be the primary staff person <br />responsible for identification of the County's natural resources and prioritization <br />of natural resource acquisition needs. In assessing the land conservation needs <br />and acquisition priorities, the position will apply a knowledge of environmental <br />science in developing recommendations. The Natural Resources Conservation <br />Manager will work with other department staff to develop and evaluate a <br />comprehensive resource database that prioritizes and targets the County's <br />natural resource preservation efforts. <br />Acquisition of Highest Priority Natural Resources: The position will be <br />responsible for developing specific strategies to conserve land and other natural <br />resources. This will include obtaining appraisals and negotiating the purchase <br />and/or donation of targeted natural resource properties, whether through <br />purchase in fee-simple or interests at less-than-fee levels such as conservation <br />easements or other agreements. This also will include negotiation of terms and <br />development of draft agreements and contracts for acquisition. <br />Financing and Funding: The Natural Resources Conservation Manager will <br />identify grant opportunities and will seek grant funding to augment County <br />matching funds, including the development of grant applications. The position will <br />seek to maximize available state and Federal funds to achieve the department's <br />goals though the acquisition and management of natural resource properties. <br />Education/Outreach: The position will build partnerships with landowners, <br />interest groups and the general public through education and outreach in support <br />of the ERCD goals including acquisition and maintenance of natural resources. <br />
