20
Appendix B
Recommended Personnel and Costs for the
Environment and Resource Conservation
Department
1. Administrative Assistant II -Proposed new permanent full-time position
Because there are no existing administrative assistants in Planning that could
be re-assigned without dramatically affecting the ability of Planning to
address the boards and staff it retains, it is recommended that a new
Administrative Assistant position be established for this department. The
Administrative Assistant would be needed due to the responsibilities of
supporting staff and developing commission/board minutes for several
boards.
Associated Costs: $18,000 (half-year salary and benefits)
Impact on Planning Department Projects: None.
2. GIS Project Coordinator -Proposed reassignment of existing permanent
full-time position.
This position would be responsible for coordinating GIS products and the land
records database for staff and the commissions/boards that the department
supports. It is recommended that current GIS Project Coordinator Beth
Young be re-assigned to the ERCD. As one of two existing Planning GIS
members, Beth has had many occasions to produce coverages of an
environmental and resource conservation nature, including recent work with
the Triangle Land Conservancy on the "Landscape wth Wildlife" report.
Associated Costs: None
Impact on Planning Department Projects: A substantial portion (perhaps
over 50%) of recent duties for Planning GIS personnel has been related to
environmental or resource-oriented projects. As this position becomes part of
the new department, existing Planning GIS projects in this field will be
accordingly reassigned to the ERCD. One GIS workstation and access to a
second would be shifted to the new department, consistent with the shift in
workload and projects.
