RESOLUTION <br />Endorsing the Southern Human Services Center-Horace Williams site <br />For the <br />Southern Orange Senior Center <br />WHEREAS, the senior population (60+) in Orange County is currently estimated to be 13,700 and <br />is expected to double by the year 2015; and <br />WHEREAS, Orange County is desirous to provide quality services to Orange County seniors <br />through it's Department on Aging; and <br />WHEREAS, there is a cognizant belief that effective service delivery for seniors extends beyond <br />the confines of a traditional senior center; and <br />WHEREAS, the University of North Carolina through iYs Institute on Aging and UNC Hospitals <br />have also expressed an interest in partnering with the County to provide services to seniors; and <br />WHEREAS, the Aging Resources Collaborative Planning group was formed to represent the <br />various interests of stakeholders; and <br />WHEREAS, the planning group, which included representatives from the University of North <br />Carolina at Chapel Hill, Orange County Government, UNC Hospitals, UNC's Institute on Aging, <br />UNC's Medical School- Program on Aging, the Town of Chapel Hill, the Town of Carrboro, <br />Triangle J Council of Governments, Carol Woods and the Seniors of southern Orange has met to <br />explore the best possible options for providing senior services in southern Orange County; and <br />WHEREAS, the group has worked diligently over a long period of time to explore various options <br />of programming and physical facilities for senior activities; and <br />WHEREAS, the group has agreed that programming of the individual entities should complement <br />the overall services offered to seniors; and <br />WHEREAS, the group has agreed that the programs can be offered most effectively if the facilities <br />are to be co-located in a campus environment; and <br />WHEREAS, after detailed review of over seven sites, the Planning Group has determined the <br />Southern Human Services-Horace Williams site on Homestead Road to be the most feasible and <br />the most desirable site discussed; <br />BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED THAT, the Aging Resources Collaborative Planning Group has <br />unanimously endorsed the Southern Human Services Center-Horace Williams site on Homestead <br />Road to pursue the campus concept of senior programs in southern Orange County. <br />This, the twentieth day of October, 1998. <br />Ned Brooks, Chair <br />Aging Resources Collaborative Planning Group <br />
