RETURN THIS COPY TO THE CLERK'S <br />OFFICE FOR THE PERMANENT AGENDA FILE 8 <br />A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING <br />THE NORTHERN HUMAN SERVICES CENTER'S <br />SOUTHERN PARKING LOT <br />A REGIONAL PARK AND RIDE LOT <br />WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Commissioners support the Triangle Transit <br />Authority's provision of alternative modes of transportation to include ridesharing and <br />transit; and <br />WHEREAS, the Orange County Government Department Directors that provide services in the <br />Northern Human Services Center have reviewed this site and have found that a Regional Park <br />and Ride Lot would not interfere with their department's service provision to the citizens of <br />Orange County; and <br />WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Division Engineer has <br />reviewed the site and found it suitable for being paved as a Regional Park and Ride Lot; and <br />WHEREAS, the Triangle Transit Authority's staff has reviewed the site and stated that they will <br />provide Park and Ride Lot signs and also market it as a Regional Park and Ride Lot; and <br />WHEREAS, the 1995 Orange County Transportation Priority List requested a park and ride lot <br />north of the town of Hillsborough on NC 86.; and <br />WHEREAS, the intent of the Park and Ride Lot is to provide for a method to take vehicular <br />traffic off of Churton Street and other congested roads in Orange County and the Triangle <br />Region; and <br />WHEREAS, the promotion of carpools, vanpools and transit have a positive impact on the Air <br />Quality of the Triangle; and <br />WHEREAS, the Orange County staff will submit a request to the N.C. Department of <br />Transportation to cover the costs of paving the designated park and ride lot; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT The Orange County Board of <br />Commissioners do hereby with this resolution declare that they unanimously support the <br />utilization of the Northern Human Services Center's Southern Parking Lot as a Regional Park <br />and Ride Lot. <br />This, the 4th day of November, 1998. <br />MArga et W.
