<br /> <br />STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA CONTRACT <br />COUNTY OF ORANGE NOVEMBER 1998 <br />This contract is made and entered into this ~7 day of Ov. 1998, by the County <br />of Orange, North Carolina, a body politic and corporate of the State of North Carolina, and the Chapel <br />Hill /Carrboro Board of Education. <br />WITNESSETH <br />Whereas, the County Library operates under chapter 153A, article 14 (G.S. 153A-261 through G.S. 153A- <br />271, Appendice I) to give library service to the residents of Orange County; and <br />Whereas, the Orange County Public Library operates to give library service to the residents throughout the <br />county and wishes to have the benefit of additional service in southern Orange County; <br />TI~REFORE, BE IT MUTUALLY AGREED THAT: <br />The Public Library located in McDougle Middle/Elementary School will become a Branch of the Orange <br />County Public Library and the Branch Librarian will be an employee of Orange County Government and <br />will report to the Orange County Library Director. <br />When open to the public, the policies of the Branch including selection of materials, will conform to the <br />policies of the Hyconeechee Regional Library Inc. (Appendice II, Book and Materials Selection Policy, <br />Appendice III Citizen's Request for Reconsideration of a Book) except (a) materials that are <br />inappropriate in a elementary and middle school setting will be shelved in an area inaccessible to students <br />(b) if a school purchased book challenge comes from school-related individual, it will be handled by the <br />school district's book challenge policy; challenges brought by Branch Library patrons will be handled by <br />the Public Library policy on citizen's request for reconsideration of a book. As needed, procedures maybe <br />changed after consultation with the McDougle Middle /Elementary Schools and the Library Director. <br />The Chapel HilUCarrboro School System will provide office space and utilities for the Carrboro Branch <br />Library. Maintenance, repair, and insurance of all furnishing and equipment belonging to or purchased by <br />the Orange County Government for the Branch Library shall be the responsibility of Orange County. The <br />County will also allocate $1,000 annually to Chapel HilUCarrboro School System to be used at their <br />discretion. <br />The Branch Library will assume all duties associated with overdue materials from non-student patrons, <br />including sending overdue notices. Revenue collected for overdue books or materials will revert to the <br />Library, which issued the card used to check out the books or materials. Revenue collected for lost or <br />damaged books or materials, and policies for the lending of equipment and non-print materials for use <br />outside the library will be set by the owner of the equipment or materials. <br />~, The school will be responsible for repairing or replacing Branch Library equipment damaged or stolen <br />°~ during the school day. The Branch Library will be responsible for repairing or replacing school <br />equipment damaged or stolen by non-student patrons during Branch Library hours. <br />The County shall furnish books, periodicals and other Library materials to the Branch Library in such <br />quantities as the Director of the County Library may determine in consultation with the Branch Librarian. <br />To supplement materials already owned, the Branch may borrow units upon special requests. <br />
