Goals <br />1. All students will achieve mastery in reading, mathematics, and oral and <br />written communication. <br />Qbjectives• <br />• All schools will make at least "reasonable gains" each year as defined by the State's ABC Plan <br />on End -of -Grade Tests (EOG), the state writing test, and the achievement criteria identified for <br />high schools. (Note: A reasonable gain, as defined by the state, typically is a one year gain for <br />each year of instruction.) <br />• The percentage of students demonstrating proficiency on EOG tests in reading and mathematics <br />at each grade level in grades 3 -8 will increase to at least 95 percent. (Note: By June, 1999 fifth <br />and eighth grade students who do not demonstrate proficiency in reading and mathematics will <br />not be promoted to middle and high school.) <br />• The percentage of students demonstrating proficiency on the state writing examination in <br />grades four and seven will increase to at least 95 percent of all students. (Note: By June, 1999 <br />fifth and eighth grade students who do not demonstrate proficiency in writing will not be <br />promoted to middle and high school.) <br />• Students in grades 3, 6, and 9, on the average, will perform, at least, at the 80th percentile on <br />the Metropolitan Achievement Test in reading, language arts, and mathematics. <br />2. All students will think critically and use appropriate strategies and <br />technologies to acquire and analyze information to solve problems. <br />Objectives: <br />• The percentage of secondary students demonstrating proficiency on End of Course tests will <br />increase to 75 percent on each examination. <br />• The SAT. participation rate will increase to 90 percent or higher and the average total score will <br />be 1150. <br />• The number of AP test scores at 3 or above will increase to an average of 0.75 per junior and <br />senior. <br />• The percentage of eighth graders demonstrating competency on the State technology exam will <br />increase to at least 90 percent of eighth graders and all high school seniors. (Successful <br />completion of the technology exam is a requirement for graduation by the year 2001). <br />• Secondary students will continue to excel in state and national level competitions in the <br />academics, the arts, and vocational education. <br />3. All students will graduate from high school or receive a graduation <br />equivalency degree from a community college. <br />Objective. <br />• <br />The dropout rate for students in grades 9 -12 will not exceed 2.0 percent as measured by the <br />State. All students leaving school early will complete an exit interview which documents the <br />reason for their decision. <br />• 90 percent of 9th graders will meet high academic standards and will be promoted to 10th <br />grade. <br />6 <br />
