• Enhancements to teacher supplements: CHCCS will review a report that was approved by the Board of <br />Education, contingent upon the availability of funds. The effort is particularly targeted to raising compensation <br />for teachers at the lower end of the pay scale. The Superintendent points out that the recommendations for <br />enhancements will take several years to implement due to their costs. (Attachment 8) <br />Schools and Land Use Council Update <br />County will present a brief update on the recent activities of this advisory group. No attachments. <br />Student Achievement <br />• Phoenix Academy update: (Attachment 9) <br />• Report on AVID -second year operations: (Attachment 9) <br />• Report on 1997-98 ABC and SAT results: (Attachment 9) <br />• CHCCS Strategic Plan: Approved last year to provide direction for CHCCS. (Attachment 10) <br />• Alternative school update: CHCCS will report briefly on the alternative school operation at Lincoln Center. <br />(Attachment 11) <br />• Task force on limited English proficient students: The proposal that led to creation of this task force this <br />summer is provided. The Superintendent notes that he hopes this initiative will not have major financial <br />implications for the local budget. He expects that State funds will become increasingly available and that <br />other local agencies will pick up some of the responsibilities for serving members of this community. <br />(Attachment 12) <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board of Commissioners discuss these issues <br />with the Board of Education and provide direction to staff as appropriate. <br />
