Attachment 1 <br />C2235-11/98 <br />COMPUTER NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR <br />GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br />Performs difficult professional work in the design, installation, and administration of <br />Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs) and provides systems <br />administration and monitoring; does related work as required. <br />Work is performed under general supervision. <br />TYPICAL TASKS: <br />Serves as network administrator; <br />Designs, installs and configures local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks <br />(WANs) and provide systems administration and monitoring; <br />Installs, configures and supports network based software applications; data and <br />telecommunication devices; email system and personal computers (PCs); <br />Establishes and maintains LAN security, security documentation and procedures; <br />Provides response to system problems; hazd disk and file system maintenance; router; <br />data switch and port configuration; and support; <br />Establishes and maintains adequate backup of all data and programs of LAN systems; <br />Researches, evaluates and recommends current hazdwaze and softwaze purchases for <br />computer systems; <br />Ensures that software licenses remain legal through hazdwaze and/or softwaze upgrades; <br />Provides training and technical support to individuals and groups; <br />Acts as a source of reference to departmental computer coordinators; <br />Performs related tasks as required. <br />KNOWLEDGE. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br />Thorough knowledge of LAN/WAN systems, infrastructure installation and maintenance; <br />uses and capabilities of electronic data processing main and peripheral equipment; ability <br />to troubleshoot hazdwaze and softwaze problems; ability to evaluate, recommend and <br />install PCs, servers, operating systems, network software, communications hazdwaze; <br />ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and users; <br />ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. <br />EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br />Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an <br />accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, computer <br />technology, information systems management or related field and at least two years <br />experience in network administration including development and design, installation, <br />testing, and systems related programs. <br />
