Specialist daily routine changing from primarily supporting a <br />stand alone network and PCs in one building to supporting <br />multiple servers, workstations, communications equipment and <br />software connected via frame relay communication. Currently, <br />there are approximately 400 personal computer users. <br />2 <br />The Microcomputer Specialist now is responsible for <br />installations, upgrades, maintenance and enhancements to <br />more sophisticated software and hardware, including frame relay <br />technology. <br />The Microcomputer Specialist primary duties and responsibilities <br />consist of the following: <br />• Develops and designs, installs and administers Local Area <br />Networks (lr4Ns) and ode Area Networks (WANs). <br />• Installs, configures and supports network based software <br />applications; data and telecommunication devices; email <br />system and personal computers (PCs). <br />• Provides response to system problems, both hardware and <br />software. Maintains hard disks and file systems, routers, data <br />switches and port configurations. <br />Based on the classification study and review of available labor <br />market information, Personnel is recommending that the <br />Microcomputer Specialist at Salary Grade 70 be reclassified to <br />Computer Network Administrator at Salary Grade 71. Funds to <br />implement this change are available within the approved budget <br />for fiscal year 1998-99. <br />The Information Technology Committee has reviewed this <br />proposal and endorses it. <br />Recommendation: The Manager recommends the Board amend the classification <br />and pay plan by changing the class of Microcomputer Specialist <br />class at Salary Grade 70 to Computer Network Administrator at <br />Salary Grade 71. <br />is\elg in\classify\mis\648abs.doc <br />10/29/98 <br />
