Frank Clifton said that he made no assumptions that these boards would not continue to
meet as they have. There is no reduction in funding, but it is just an assignment of that cost to
tourism dollars.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
Kristin Miller spoke on the importance of the Orange County Health Department. He said that he
understands that there is a lease with an option to buy surrounding the DSS facility at
Hillsborough Commons. He said that the property tax here would be lost if this tenant leaves as
well as the sales tax revenue.
Frank Clifton said that the County got notice last week that Lowes was not going to
renew its lease. The owner of the building contacted the County to see if they wanted to have
discussions about this site and there have been no discussions yet. There was a work session
several months ago and the proposed purchase price is not something that he can recommend
from a financial standpoint for the County and it exceeds the reasonable boundaries. He said
that the County also does not want to be in a position of kicking out active businesses.
4.
