RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION <br />AND COMMENDATION <br />FOR <br />RICHARD s . wEIITTED <br />WHEREAS, Richard E. Whitted was elected by the voters of Orange County to <br />the Board of Commissioners in the General Election of 1972 and in <br />doing sv became at the time the youngest person in the State of <br />North Carolina to serve in such capacity; and <br />WHEREP.S, tha voters of Orange County returned him to the Board in the <br />General Elections of 1976 and 19.80; and <br />WHEREAS, he has served with distinction, dedication and great compassion on <br />that body for twelve years, always demonstrating a keen insight <br />into the concerns of Orange County citizens and the problems of <br />County Government and seeking at all times a path towards better <br />local government; and <br />3? <br />WHEREAS, since first assuming office, Richard E. Whiffed has served well <br />all the citizens of Orange County as a Member.of'the Board of Commissioners, <br />vice'Chai.r (.19791976) and'Chair`of the Board'.(1976-1980 and 1981-1983). <br />-WHEREAS, he has given generously of I1is time, talent and special knowledge <br />through his service on numerous community, County and State <br />ceamnittees and councils among which include his having been a <br />Member of the Durham-Orange Employment and Training Service, Orange <br />County Young Democrats, NAACP, Mt, aright Baptist Church, Joint ' <br />Regional Forum, Long Term Care Advisory Committee, Capital Health <br />Systems Agency, Governor's Crime Commission and North Carolina <br />Land Stewardship Council Advisory Board; and as Chair of the <br />Orancre-Person~hatham Mental Health Board and Triangle J Council <br />of Governments and Co-chair of the Association of Counties' <br />Legislative Study Committee. <br />WHEREAS, he brought exceptional distinction to himself, Orange County and <br />_. this Board by being recognized by the North Carolina Association <br />of County Commissioners as being the Outstianding County Commissioner <br />in the. state of North Carolina Por the year of 19$3; and. <br />WHEREAS, he has promoted and helped develop many progressive changes in <br />literally all aspects of Orange County Government. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of CommissioneFS, acting <br />through its Members on behalf of the citizens of Orange County,. <br />takes this means of expressing to RICHARD E. WHITTED, its sincere <br />appreciation and commends him for his faithful service, able <br />leadership, progressive ideas; and <br />'p <br />r BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that it wishes for him every happiness iti the <br />'..:i <br />years ahead and directs this Resolution be presented to . <br />RICHARD E.
