He said that he does not believe that and before this is spun out of control, as an <br /> 3 elected body, he asked that the Hillsborough Board of Adjustment and the Board of County <br /> 4 Commissioners try to become of one mind and that these discussions are done in open <br /> 5 session. <br /> 6 <br /> 7 b. Matters on the Printed Apenda <br /> 8 (These matters were considered when the Board addressed that item on the agenda <br /> 9 below.) <br /> 10 <br /> 11 3. Proclamations/ Resolutions/Special Presentations <br /> 12 a. Presentation of the Southern Gerontoloaical Societv's 2010 Best Practices <br /> 13 in Aqina Award to Oranae Countv <br /> 14 The Board received the Southern Gerontological Society's 2010 Best Practices in Aging <br /> 15 Award from Dr. Janice Wassel, President of the Southern Gerontological Society. <br /> 16 Department on Aging Director Jerry Passmore introduced Dr. Janice Wassel. He said <br /> 17 that Dr. Wassel is also an active member of the Orange County Advisory Board on Aging and <br /> 18 her expertise has been tremendous. <br /> 19 Dr. Janice Wassel said that Orange County is an amazing county and one of the first <br /> 20 counties to develop and formalize a Master Aging Plan. Nationally, Orange County has been a <br /> 21 model for other counties and states. She presented Orange County with this award. This <br /> 22 society is a network of the south's best gerontology doctors. She said that Orange County and <br /> 23 the Department on Aging, together with UNC faculty, have built excellent bridges. She read the <br /> 24 list of individuals receiving this award: <br /> 25 Kate Barrett— Department on Aging Transition Administrator <br /> 26 Jan Gerard— Licensed Clinical Social Worker <br /> 27 Vibeke Tally— Department on Aging Occupational Therapist <br /> 28 Dr. Rachel Rasteed — Physician at UNC's School of Medicine <br /> 29 Jenna Birkhart— Pharmacist from UNC's School of Pharmacy <br /> 30 Janice Tyler— Department on Aging Senior Center Administrator <br /> 31 Myra Austin — Department on Aging Wellness Coordinator <br /> 32 Dr. Carol Giuliani — Physical Therapist, Director of UNC Human Movement and Science <br /> 33 <br /> 34 Commissioner Nelson arrived at 7:09 PM. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 Dr. Wassel said that she has served on the Advisory Board on Aging for years and she <br /> 37 is concerned that this advisory board may not be able to continue to serve in its current function <br /> 38 if it does not remain an independent board, separate from the senior centers. She said that <br /> 39 demographically the board is diverse racially, age-wise, professionally, and with regard to <br /> 40 education. <br /> 41 <br /> 42 b. Distinquished Budqet Presentation Award <br /> 43 The Board considered recognizing the budget staff of the Orange County Financial <br /> 44 Services Department for earning the Government Finance Officers' Association Distinguished <br /> 45 Budget Presentation Award for the 2009-10 fiscal year budget document. <br /> 46 Financial Services Director Clarence Grier said that the County has received this award <br /> 47 for many years and he is accepting it on the behalf of the Budget department. He recognized <br /> 48 Paul Laughton, Tonya Walton, and Allison Chambers. <br /> 49 The Board recognized the Orange County Finance Department for earning the <br /> 50 Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. <br />
