Renewal of Food and Orqanic Waste Collection and Compostina Contract <br /> 28 The Board considered renewing the contract that enables the County Solid Waste <br /> 29 Management Department to provide collection and composting services for separated food <br /> 30 waste, organic material and animal bedding to commercial and institutional establishments <br /> 31 throughout the County, including for UNC-Chapel Hill and authorizing the Chair to sign. <br /> 32 Commissioner Jacobs said that the last time this contract was renewed, he had some <br /> 33 issues with it, and he still has some questions about it. There are two glaring absences in food <br /> 34 waste collection. He asked about the schools and if they contract their food waste disposal <br /> 35 separately. <br /> 36 Solid Waste Director Gayle Wilson said that the County schools are not on the food <br /> 37 waste program. It was on it at one time, but it is not on it at the present time. <br /> 38 Commissioner Jacobs said that it looks like there is no food waste collected north of <br /> 39 Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Gayle Wilson said that Weaver Street Market in Hillsborough is <br /> 40 collected. Commissioner Jacobs made reference to Attachment A and said that Hillsborough <br /> 41 was not included in the list. Gayle Wilson said that this is the original agreement. He did not <br /> 42 include an updated list of current establishments. <br /> 43 Commissioner Jacobs said that he would like a renewed effort made to include the <br /> 44 school systems before signing this contract. He would like to see the additional waste <br /> 45 generated and if this would have a positive impact on the cost. He would also like to see an <br /> 46 updated list. <br /> 47 Commissioner Jacobs asked that this item be tabled. <br /> 48 Gayle Wilson said that he would get the list of establishments currently served right <br /> 49 away and he will initiate discussion with the schools.
