If some farm of merit is initiated and <br />limited to long-term employees or tied only to compensate for in-step placement <br />it comprgmises the meaning of merit pay. <br />Commissioner i~farshall asked a minimum amount of money needed to <br />create a meaningful merit pool. <br />Thompson noted that a costing had not been done and other sources <br />have not been identified for merit money. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner tarshall, seconded by Commissioner <br />?shitted to create a 550,000 merit pool. <br />Chair tiPillhoit suggested continuing the current policy and reviewing <br />any problems that arise because of step inequities. He expressed a concern <br />that the motian included a specific dollar amount with no source of funds <br />identified. <br />VOTE: Ayes, 2; D?oes, 2 (Commissioner Walker and Chair Willhoit) <br />iIotion was made by Chair 47illhoit, seconded by Commissioner Whitted <br />to reaffirm the current pay rate policy. <br />.Commissioner Whitted commented that he seconded the motion so that <br />the greater part of the pay plan could be implemented but expressed a concern <br />for the inequities in reaffirming the present pay rate policy; a number of <br />employees who have been with the County for a number of years will be at the <br />same rate of pay as those are newly hired.
