Internal Advisory Manager's Recommendations Staff Comments
BoardslCommissions
Recommendations:
The Orange County Advisory Board on Aging with Friends of
the Senior Centers representatives met on May 11,2010 and
reviewed the function and structure of both groups. They did
nof approve the County Manager's recommendation to
dissolve the Aging Advisory Board and mergel transfer
its role to the two private non-profit Friends of the Senior
Centers organization.Their recommendation reinforces their j
belief in a strong public commitment embodied by the
existing County Aging Advisory Board that
comprehensively addresses the aging issues of Orange
County's largest and fastest growing population, projected to
doubled in 18 years to over 41,000 residents over 60 years of
age.
Instead, the Orange County Advisory Board on Aging
approved the following recommendation:
1. The BOCC should consider enlarging the Aging
Advisory Board to 1-18 members(from current
12 members)in order to more efficiently and
effectively carry out the year-round board's
purposes,to encompass new roles/responsibilities
and to facilitate the operation of two permanent
committees:planninglcoordination and
legislative/advocacy. Friends of the Senior Centers
representatives would continue to attend the Aging
Advisory Board's monthly meetings to report and
keep them informed of senior center issues and
activities.
